PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can carry out input/output control of image data without decreasing the productivity by restricting to a minimum, an image data input/output process of a primary storage device and a secondary storage device without loading a large-capacity image memory. SOLUTION: In the case when the image data input/output process is brought in an execution entry queue (S101; Y), a necessary frame number of the primary storage device in the image data input/output process at the head of the execution entry queue is calculated (S102). A used frame number in the entire image data input/output process in the middle of execution is calculated (S103). An unused frame number is calculated by subtracting the used frame number from a total frame number of the primary storage device (S104). In the case where the unused frame number is larger than the necessary frame number (S105; Y) and the necessary frame number can be secured consecutively (S107; Y and S109; Y), the image data input/output process is executed (S108).
