1,156,532. Conversion catalysts. MONSANTO CO. 21 June, 1966 [21 June, 1965], No. 27616/66. Heading B1E. [Also in Divisions C2 and C5] A hydrocarbon conversion catalyst comprises carbon deposited on a porous carrier which has an acidity factor of no more than 2.0., the carbon being produced by carbonisation of an organic compound containing carbon, hydrogen and optionally other non- metallic elements e.g. O, N, S, halides. The organic compound is contacted with the carrier, which may be part of the inner wall of a reactor, at a temperature of 200‹ to 1400‹C. The catalyst may contain 0.1% to 30% carbon, and optionally a promoter, and for use in hydrogenation includes 0.1% to 2% noble metal. For use in reforming, isomerizing and bydrocracking, the catalyst as above is mixed with 10% to 90% of a support having an acidity factor of no less than 3.0. Acidity factor is measured by a process comprasing passing a mixture of 92% n-dodecane, 8% n alpha dodecene and hydrogen over the support material at 435‹ - 440‹C., and analysing the products by gas chromatography. |
