IMAGE CODING APPARATUS, METHOD, AND STORAGE MEDIUM HAVING RECORDED PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out run length coding of redundant JPEG block location information to decrease the amount of data and to easily compound a JPEG plane with a run length plane by putting a block count into code information.

SOLUTION: An image coding apparatus is characterized by: a first coding means for dividing an image into a plurality of regions and using a suitable coding method for each of them; a second coding means for coding location information for compounding the plurality of regions; a coding judging means, having a format forming means for forming a data sequence using the data coded by the first and the second coding means, for judging the data generated by the format forming means according to a coding method; a first decoding means for decoding the data which is judged by the coding judging means to be coded by the first coding means; and a compounding information generating means for generating compounding information from the data which is judged by above-mentioned coding judging means to be coded by the second coding means. The apparatus is also characterized in that an original image is formed from the data decoded by the first decoding means and above-mentioned compounding information.
