<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lamp base for a high pressure discharge lamp and a corresponding high pressure discharge lamp wherein the structure is simple and an insulating property of a connecting element of an electrical contact is improved. <P>SOLUTION: The lamp base for the high pressure discharge lamp having a housing part for a transformer, a connecting element is disposed in the lamp base, and the connecting element is used for connecting a voltage output side of the transformer to a current supplying part introduced outward from a discharge container of the discharge lamp.
