PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation assisting device for a vehicle capable of determination of departure of a preceding vehicle captured on one's own vehicle traveling lane at a suitable timing. SOLUTION: In the preceding vehicle capture/departure determination for determining departure of the preceding vehicle from one's own vehicle traveling lane after a predetermined hold time t is retained from when the preceding vehicle captured on one's own vehicle traveling lane cannot be captured, IPU 5 is constituted such that it presumes a factor that the preceding vehicle cannot be captured from one's own vehicle traveling lane and a counting speed of the retaining time t is changed in response to the respective presumed factors. Thereby, the determination of departure of the preceding vehicle can be performed at the suitable timing corresponding to the actual preceding vehicle capturing state and transferring from following traveling control to constant speed traveling control in execution of ACC function can be performed at the right moment.
