Disclosed is a printing plate material comprising a support and provided thereon, a hydrophilic layer containing pigment particles having a light-to-heat conversion capability, wherein the pigment particles have an average particle diameter of from 0.15 mum to less than 1.0 mum, and the hydrophilic layer has a surface roughness Ra of from 0.2 mum to less than 1.5 mum.
