The present invention relates to a method in a planning and/or maintenance system of an automation system, where at least one functional diagram is formed of the functions of the automation system, where the functions are shown at least partly as graphic symbols (301, 302, 303). In the method, at least a first parameter is determined, and said first parameter is connected to at least on graphic symbol. In the method, a formula is determined for the first parameter, on the basis of which formula the value of the first parameter is calculated. The determination of said formula is stored when calculating the value of the first parameter, and can be shown in the planning and/or maintenance phase of the functional diagram. The invention also relates to a system and a program product applying the method.
