PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preform manufacturing process and an apparatus improved in cooling efficiency. SOLUTION: A cooling pin 74 for cooling an interior surface of a molded article has an exterior surface and a main unit 224 including an inner channel 90 with a first terminal connectable to a gaseous cooling fluid source while in use. The inner channel 90 has a second terminal, which terminates in an outlet nozzle 92 to send out the gaseous cooling fluid while in use, is positioned along the cooling pin, and is further deformed in the outline of the exterior surface apart from the outlet nozzle. So the distance of the exterior surface from the interior surface of the molded article to which the cooling pin is inserted varies while in use. In the above situation, said cooling pin is characterized in that the variation in the distance is realized by a plurality of ribs or contact elements projecting outward from the exterior surface, and that the ribs or contact elements are deployed in a radial pattern around the exterior surface.
