A receiver (3) receives wireless control signals (CS) sent over the air by a transmitter (2). An accumulator or fuel cell acts as an electrical energy store (EES) (5) to supply a source of electric light (SOEL) (6) like a luminous diode via an electric circuit (7a,7b). Wired into the circuit between the EES and the SOEL, a switch (8) is opened and closed by switching signals (EA). Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a fishing float incorporating a remote-controlled lighting device according to the present invention; (b) a traffic cone incorporating a remote-controlled lighting device according to the present invention; and (c) a Christmas-tree candle incorporating a remote-controlled lighting device according to the present invention.
