The tension chuck has a gripper (1) with adapter (10) to be fitted onto a tool spindle of the machine tool. A clamping ring (20) fits axially and rotationally secured on the adapter and has gripper claws (22) and a tool socket with slits (23). An axially displaceable radially guided spanner (30) passing axially through the adapter is mounted in the inner space (21) of the clamping ring and has clamping claws (32) which can engage in the gripper claws so that the gripper claws are entrained through the axial movement of the spanner towards the tool spindle so that the clamping ring is tightened up and grips a tool in the tool socket.
