<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a touch panel device capable of improving the precision of detection of a contact position of an object by correcting an increased contact width brought about by a burst wave. <P>SOLUTION: A time domain waveform of actual measurement received in a receiving part 4 is compared with a reference slice time domain waveform stored in a slice data memory 56 in a comparison part 59 and a detection result obtained from the comparison result is temporarily stored in a RAM 53. The detection data stored in the RAM 53 are corrected by the minimum contact width determined by the number of generation times of surface acoustic waves, an electrode construction of the panel, and a speed of the surface acoustic wave by a correction section 60.
