PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering device without imparting steering escaping feeling to a driver at the time of starting the device, regardless of a characteristic of an assist map. SOLUTION: A target current setting part 12 is provided with the assist map 122 showing a correspondence relation of a current target value (It) and steering torque T, an assist current setting part 121 for outputting a current target value (It) by referring to the assist map 122, an assist start deciding part 123 for deciding whether or not an assist operation is performed based on the current target value (It) and an operation signal Si showing starting of the device, and an output limiting part 124 for outputting the current target value (It) in a prescribed case based on the decision result of the assist start deciding part 123. The output limiting part 124 does not generate steering auxiliary force, regardless of the characteristic of the assist map, by making the current target value (It) as zero when the current target value (It) exceeds a prescribed value (typically zero) to prevent steering escaping feeling from being imparted to the driver.
