PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is superior in convenience for the user, by shortening a first printing time. SOLUTION: Regarding an intermediate transfer belt 71 stretched to be laid between rollers 72 and 74, a secondary transfer area TR2 for transferring a toner image from an intermediate transfer belt 71 to a sheet S is arranged in a wound area, where the belt 71 is wound on the lower roller 72. A primary transfer area TR1 for transferring the toner image from a photoreceptor 22 to the intermediate transfer belt 71 is arranged immediately above the roller 72 and on the upstream side of the secondary transfer area TR2 in the rotating direction D2 of the intermediate transfer belt 71. By shortening the distance between the primary transfer area TR1 and the secondary transfer area TR2, a toner image carrying distance can be shortened. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
