PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of automatically adjusting the lightness of a projected video image according to ambient luminance. SOLUTION: The display device is provided with an ambient luminance detector for measuring the ambient luminance and a control means for controlling the luminance of a video signal on the basis of the ambient luminance detected by the ambient luminance detector. The control means controls the luminance of the video signal to make the luminance of the video signal higher when the ambient luminance is high and lower when the ambient luminance is low.
