PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a headrest device for a vehicle securely and quickly retaining the head part of the sitting occupant without the use of inertial force of the occupant at collision from behind and capable of more securely retaining the head part by improving rigidity for supporting a headrest body at the collision from behind. SOLUTION: A headrest main body 10a is provided with right and left headrest members 12 and 13, a front cover 20 for retaining the occupant head part, a turning and energizing mechanism 30 for turning and energizing the right and the left headrest members 12 and 13 ahead and above the vehicle, a lock mechanism 40 for retaining the main body 10a in an initial position and a control means 50 for detecting the collision from behind to unlock the lock mechanism 40, thereby allowing the occupant head part to be quickly retained. Providing a load transmitting means 70 which works at the collision from behind and transmits a load caused by the collision and input into the headrest main body 10a to a seat back frame 102 enables the secure retention of the occupant head part in a short time by catching a reactional force working at retaining the head part with high rigidity.
