FAILURE DETECTING DEVICE IN ELECTRIC POWER STEERING DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To certainly detect adhesion failure of a motor current detecting means in an electric power steering device.

SOLUTION: The electric power steering device detects an actual current IM1 supplied to a motor by the motor current detecting means, and feedback controls the actual current IM1 so as to agree with a target current ITN decided on the basis of steering torque. When an integrated value CDIM of time that a deviation SIMTN between the target current ITN and the actual current IM1 is not less than a threshold #SIMTNL becomes not less than a first predetermined time #CDIMNG, it is determined that the adhesion failure occurs in the motor current detecting means. When an integrated value CDIMC1 of time that a deviation STNIM between the target current ITN and the actual current IM1 is not more than the threshold #SIMTNL becomes not ledd than a second predetermined time #CDIMC1NG, the integrated value CDIM is reset to prohibit failure determination.
