<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of characteristics of a TFT due to light entering a channel of the TFT of a liquid crystal display. <P>SOLUTION: The TFT is formed into an inverse-stagger structure wherein a gate electrode 11 shades a channel region 14 from the backlight of the liquid crystal display.
