<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a book storage managing system capable of calling a container having a free space in response to a book amount to be returned, and storing books without measuring books of the amount corresponding to the free space based on the books to be returned. <P>SOLUTION: In this system, thickness of each book is stored as book data in a managing device, the managing device selects a container CT capable of storing returned books based on the total thickness of the books to be returned, and commands to convey the container CT from storage shelves 7a and 7b to a storage station.
