PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To distinguish presence or absence of an object P to be heated in a gas cooking stove provided with a surface combustion type burner 4 by arranging a combustion casing 3 with a top face blocked by a glass top plate 2 in a lower side of the glass top plate 2 and facing a combustion face 4a upward in a lower part of the combustion casing 3, and heating the object P to be heated mounted on a top face of the glass top plate 2. SOLUTION: In the combustion casing 3, a temperature sensor 11 is arranged in a position in a bottom face neighborhood of the glass top plate 2, and the temperature sensor 11 is covered by a heat insulating material 13 excluding a top face portion facing the glass top plate 2. Thermal influence of combustion exhaust gas with respect to the temperature sensor 11 is reduced by the heat insulating material 13, and a detected temperature of the temperature sensor 11 sensitively changes in response to temperature change of the glass top plate 2. By this, presence or absence of the object P to be heated on the glass top plate 2 can be distinguished on the basis of change of the detected temperature of the temperature sensor 11.
