PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controlling method for a heating system capable automatically and surely filling a circulation passage with water if circulation water is needed therein when the heating system is powered on so as to reduce time of the following test run and thereby reducing work load, or capable of reducing the initial heater running start time. SOLUTION: This controlling method comprises steps of test running the heating system 1 having a heating tank 2, a heat source machine 3, a plurality of heating terminals 6a to 6c (test running step), storing information whether or not the test run of the heating system 1 is successfully completed (test run result storing step), and automatically filling the circulation passage 24 of the heating system 1 with the circulation water again when the heating system 1 is powered on only if the test run of the heating system 1 is successfully completed based on information stored in the storing section and a water level detected in the heating tank 2 is equal to or lower than a predetermined level (second water filling step).
