DRIVER IMPAIRMENT TEST

Disclosed are a method and apparatus for detecting impaired performance of operators of machinery, particularly motor vehicles. The method employs a computerised driving simulation in which are embedded a number of concealed, contextually relevant tests designed to evaluate the subject's fitness to drive. The combination of tests also gives an indication of the nature of the impairment detected. The fact that the subject is unaware of the nature of the tests minimises arousal and practice effects. The apparatus permits recording of the test performance and comparison with standards and /or a database of other test results.
