A wood press method in manufacturing laminated veneer lumber and a device thereof are provided to press lumber properly by moving a couple of heating plates of a hot press. A lumber press device is composed of a veneer sheet supply station(3), a glue diffusion station(15), a first veneer sheet supply station(27), a second veneer sheet supply station, a veneer sheet loading station(101), a base arrangement station(127), and a hot pressing station(141). A veneer sheet is transferred and moved to the right from the veneer sheet supply station along conveyor rolls(29). A controller(C) receives signals from sensors and a rotary encoder, and controls an actuator such as a cylinder, a driving unit such as a motor and devices by outputting command signals. Upper and lower heating plates and auxiliary heating plates are arranged between a couple of guide members(105). The veneer sheet is pressed by moving a couple of heating plates according to thickness of the veneer sheet.
