PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen gas sensor and a detecting method for hydrogen capable of detecting surely leakage of the hydrogen.

SOLUTION: The hydrogen gas sensor 1 comprises a substrate 2 whose at least one surface is a nonconducting face 2a and a sensor part 3 formed in a membrane form on the nonconducting face 2a and having conductivity. The sensor part 3 is constructed from hydrogen absorbing material, has terminal parts becoming inlets or outlets of a current in a pair of opposed regions of its peripheral part respectively, and further has a notch part narrowing a current path between the terminal parts.
