PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the interference of an upstream signal with a downstream signal due to the skirt phenomenon of the upstream signal, thereby enabling the long distant ADSL communication. SOLUTION: The ADSL modem receives a designated carrier predetermined by communication standards according to a hand-shake procedure, and revises a phase inversion system and employs the phase inversion system after the revision to transmit particular signals such as a GALF signals (C-GALF1) and a FLAG signal (R-FLAG1, C-FLAG2), the revised phase inversion system being configured such that signals ordinarily subjected to phase inversion outputted in the particular signals subjected to phase inversion by using the designated carrier are not phase-inverted, while the signals ordinarily outputted without phase inversion are phase-inverted.
