PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the development period of an engine without needing to redo a compatibility test even when there is a change in a fuel injection valve with spray of different particle diameters upon injection, and to enhance calculating accuracy of a vaporization capacity of the spray upon injection by estimating a value close to actual temperatures of a vaporizing part of the spray upon injection. SOLUTION: This fuel injection amount control device for an engine has the fuel injection valve 21 for injecting fuel into a suction port or a combustion chamber, basic characteristics concerning vaporization of the spray upon injection injected from the fuel injection valve, means 44 and 31 for for estimating temperatures of the vaporizing part of the spray upon injection, and means 33 and 34 for detecting or estimating flow speed of the vaporizing part of the spray upon injection. The device is equipped with a means 31 for calculating the vaporization capacity or a vaporization rate of the fuel injection valve 21 from the temperatures and the flow speed using the basic characteristics, and a means 31 for calculating the fuel injection amount from the fuel injection valve 21 using the calculated vaporization capacity or the vaporization rate.
