An evaluatory unit (EU) determines whether a condition depending on a situation has been met and generates first triggering signals (FTS) fed to warning devices to carry out a driver warning if the condition is met. The driver warning tells the driver to apply a braking process so as to avoid driving into an obstruction. While generating FTS, the EU generates second triggering signals. An independent claim is also included for a method for preventing a motor vehicle from driving into a vehicle ahead.
