PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an SMC manufacturing method capable of suppressing clogging trouble during the manufacture of SMC to enhance the continuous productivity of the SMC, and an SMC manufacturing apparatus. SOLUTION: In the SMC manufacturing method, an SMC material (1) containing a resin composition (2) and glass fibers (3) is held between two upper and lower mold release films (4A) and (4B) and impregnated with the resin composition (2) under pressure by an impregnation machine (6) in an impregnation process while fed by a feed device (5). The SMC material (1) held between the mold release films (4A) and (4B) is pressed by a prepressing roll (12) before the impregnation process and the pressing force of the prepressing roll (12) is continuously changed corresponding to the quality of the SMC material (1).
