A system and method for sound based capture of insects of at least one desired species. The system 20 includes a sound source 22 capable of producing frequency 24 characteristic of a song of at least one gender of the insects, a power supply 26, connectable to sound source 22 to supply power to sound source 22 so that frequency 22 emanates therefrom with sufficient volume to attract members of an opposite gender of the insects and a trapping module 28, positioned in proximity to sound source 22 so the insects are trapped as they move towards sound 22 source in response frequency 24 characteristic. The use of system 20 require practice of method 60.
