A Bowden cable mechanism for a vehicle door, or for similar systems, has the Bowden cable (1) operating on a first element (2) of a chain of levers (2, 3, 4, 5) with the last lever (4) operating on the lock mechanism. The last lever is plastic coated (9) to bridge any play between the lever and the lock mechanism and thereby provide a positive door release action with a minimum of effect from cable stretching.
