<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a square can (18-litter can made of metal plates) which retains interchangeability with a conventional rectangular can and prevents the shifting of a load of the rectangular cans. <P>SOLUTION: According to the rectangular can, a top board 2 and a bottom board 3 are fixed on the top and bottom of a can trunk 1 of a rectangular cylindrical shape, respectively, by winding up to form upper and lower winding up parts 4, 5, which are projected to the outer end side to the extent that the projection of the seamed parts 4, 5 are greater than that of the central parts of the top board 2 and bottom board 3. The projection length of the upper winding seamed part 4 is determined to be approximately 3 mm, while of the lower winding up part 5 to be approximately 6 mm. The outside dimension of the upper winding seamed part 4 is determined to be 238.0±2.0 mm (according to JIS standard). The height of the rectangular can, including the upper/lower winding up parts 4, 5, is determined to be 349.0±2.0 mm (according to JIS standard). A tapered part 6 is formed on the lower end of the can trunk 1, where the size of the tapered part 6 is determined so that the capacity of the square can becomes 19.25±0.45 L (according to JIS standard). With the tapered part 6, the outside dimension of the lower winding up part 5 is made smaller than the inside dimension of the upper winding seamed part 4.
