<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spatial light modulator and a projector which are easily manufactured and by which a user obtains smooth image quality without recognizing an image of a light shielding part such as a black matrix. <P>SOLUTION: A modulation part has a plurality of pixel parts aligned in a matrix and a black matrix part 220 which is a light shielding part disposed among the plurality of pixel parts, and further has first and second slopes 211, 213 which are strip shaped refracting parts to refract light from the modulation part disposed on the light emitting side of the modulation part and flat faces 212 transmitting or reflecting the light from the modulation part. The slopes 211, 213 are inclined along a longitudinal direction of the strip shape. The slopes 211, 213 have their aspects and an angle between the slope and the flat face to guide a projection image of the pixel part on an image 220P of the black matrix part on a screen 116 separated from the slopes with a specified distance. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
