PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon-fiber-reinforced composite metal material wherein dispersibility of a carbon nanofiber in a metal can be improved and the amount of the carbon nanofiber added can be controlled by improving wettability of the carbon nanofiber and the metal material, and its production method. SOLUTION: The production method of the carbon-fiber-reinforced composite metal material comprises a step (a) wherein a mixed material 4 is obtained by mixing metal particles (41, 42) with the carbon nanofiber 43, a step (b) wherein an oxide formed at the surfaces of the metal particles (41, 42) is reduced and the mixed material 4 is impregnated with molten metal and a step (c) wherein the carbon-fiber-reinforced composite metal material containing the carbon nanofiber 43 is obtained by solidifying the molten metal.
