The execution of a supply chain plan generated based on an inventory plan describing the amount of inventory for respective supply chain buffer, is initiated. The supply chain is monitored to generate supply chain data comprising several metric values describing the supply chain. A watchpoint that is triggered by a metric value is detected and its cause is identified, to adjust the inventory plan and supply chain plan. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) system for optimizing inventory of supply chain; and (2) program for optimizing inventory of supply chain.
