A method for fitting three dimensional items onto a support surface, with the option of removing the items and repositioning them, has the surface treated with a smooth layer (2) and with the underside of the items (3) coated with an adhesive layer (5) which forms a bond with the smooth surface, with the bond easily broken to remove the items. The adhesive force can be a high viscosity non drying adhesive or simply electrostatic or magnetic force. The adhesive layer can be retreated when worn while the support surface can be recoated.
