The invention relates to a method for estimating a transmission channel involving reception of a multicarrier signal formed by a temporal succession of symbols each comprising a cyclic prefix. According to the invention, improved estimation of said channel is determined by orthogonal projection of a first estimation performed by analysis of received data on an area produced by a sub-sampled family of orthogonal vectors Vm obtained by linear combinations from a family of vectors Wm each of which being associated with a possible delay of said channel, said delay belonging to a set of delays M selected according to a predetermined relevant criterion.
