摘要 <p>A fluorescent probe which is represented by the following formula (I): (I) wherein R&lt;1&gt; represents hydrogen, carboxy, or a monovalent substituent other than sulfo; R&lt;2&gt; represents hydrogen or a monovalent substituent; R&lt;3&gt; and R&lt;4&gt; each independently represents hydrogen or halogeno; and R&lt;5&gt; represents a monovalent group which is cleaved upon contact with a substance to be detected; provided that a combination of R&lt;1&gt; and R&lt;2&gt; is selected so that the benzene ring having R&lt;1&gt; and R&lt;2&gt; bonded thereto has such an oxidation potential that (1) before the cleavage, the compound represented by the formula (I) has substantially no fluorescence and (2) after the cleavage, the resultant compound formed from the compound represented by the formula (I) is substantially highly fluorescent.</p>
