<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming apparatus in which, when monochrome images are formed, productivity can be improved without increasing time during which unnecessary recording operation is performed. <P>SOLUTION: The color image forming apparatus includes a plurality of image forming means, an endless belt means, and a plurality of transfer means, each image forming means being adapted for forming a toner image by using a latent image means, a development means, a development separation device, and a fixing means. The color image forming apparatus has a means for forming images by exerting control such that in a multi-color image formation mode, the development rollers of the development devices and their respective image carriers are in contact with each other for all the colors. The apparatus also has a means for forming images by exerting control such that in a monochrome image formation mode, the development roller of the development device and its image carrier are in contact with each other for only a single color while the development rollers and the image carriers for the other colors are kept separated. Paper feed is started such that the timing of paper feed start with reference to the start of an image forming operation in the monochrome image formation mode is different from the timing of paper feed start with reference to the start of an image forming operation in the multi-color image formation mode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
