PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a period until an intended pained face can be obtained by changing direction information communicated to a paint designer by a designer from expression belonging to sensitivity into objective expression. SOLUTION: In this support device and method, a process wherein the designer determines deflection angle spectral reflectance communicated to the paint designer is supported to allow the designer to accurately communicate one's own intention to the paint designer. In the support device and method, a color distribution of an object surface when observing an object illuminated with a designated light source in a position of a viewpoint is displayed from an initial value of the deflection angle spectral reflectance and an angle distribution of the object surface. The displayed color distribution allows correction of a color by the designer. The deflection angle spectral reflectance is corrected according to the correction of the color distribution of the designer. By correcting the displayed color distribution to an intended color distribution, the deflection angle spectral reflectance of the painted face realizing the intended color distribution can be obtained.
