PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure a safe access into a pit by securing handrails and horizontal stepping widths while preventing the interference of a ladder with a car. SOLUTION: In this pit ladder, fixed columns 4 are fixed to a recess 14 formed on the underside of hall sill 3, access plates 7 are fitted to the fixed columns rotatably about the parts of the fixed columns 4, side beams 5 are rotatably fitted to the tips of the access plates 7, and handrails 9 are rotatably fitted to the side center portions of the access plates 7. When the car is lifted, a chain 12 is pulled up, the access plates 7, side beams 5, and handrails 9 are stored in the recesses 14. When a worker steps down in the pit, the chain 12 is removed from a hook 13 so that the access plates 7, side beams 5, and handrails 9 can be pulled out from the recesses 14.
