[Also in Division H2] An extensible connector 1 comprises a laminar member which can be extended and collapsed by folding upon itself, and one or more transmission lines 5, e.g. electrical, pneumatic or liquid transmission lines, each of which passes through at least two adjacent apertures in the thickness of the laminar member, the through axes of the two apertures intersecting one another between the folds of the laminar member and the line or lines being foldable with the laminar member. The member may comprise a series of plates 2 connected by integral hinges 3. The plates are provided with the apertures through which the lines 5 pass so that they alternately lie outside and inside the hinges 3. The transmission lines 5 are secured to the member by means of clips, protruberances of which co-operate with holes in the member to form snap fastenings (Figs. 3, 3A, not shown). The transmission lines may be kept adjacent each other by forming them with integral joining webs or by using a clamping element in conjunction with the clips. The ends of the member may be connected, as by screws 8, 15 to terminal blocks 9, 16, the transmission lines also forming a connection therewith. The transmission lines may be internally reinforced by removable coil springs. The connector 1 may be used for connecting two parts of an instrument or two separate, relatively movable, pieces of apparatus.</p> |
