<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which enables attachment of a development unit to a body frame, without giving impact and enables an operator to easily recognize that the development unit has been set at a correct position. <P>SOLUTION: A pressing mechanism which is actuated by rotation of an operating part 162 is disposed at the bottom of the development unit, which is attached freely detachably to an image forming apparatus. A projection 210, in the form of a circular arc, is formed on the front frame 155 of the development unit so as to project towards the operation part 162. Upon the operation of the operating part 162 after the insertion of the development unit, the operating part slides to the projection 210 and pushes it.
