<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that conventional manufacturing methods such as the reaction of water or an acid with a metal, the electrolysis of water, the reaction of a hydrocarbon with steam, the thermal decomposition of a hydrocarbon are high in cost and difficult in the stable supply of hydrogen gas. <P>SOLUTION: A hydrogen generating material is obtained by baking an organic rockforming mineral mined at a specified area and composed of silicon, aluminum, iron, titanium, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, rhodium, zirconium, rubidium, strontium, zinc, copper, nickel, manganese, chlorine, sulfur, phosphorus, molybdenum, carbon or the like in the state of an ore and having the nature to foam when baked at about ≥ 1,000°C and to remain a part of the carbon even after foaming.
