<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide discharge at high electric potential, to elongate cycle life, and enhance safety by raising energy density per volume of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery and raising capacity. <P>SOLUTION: The negative electrode active material for the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which is a compound indicated by the following chemical formula 1 is manufactured and used in a negative electrode. The chemical formula 1 is Li<SB>x</SB>M<SB>y</SB>V<SB>z</SB>O<SB>2+do</SB>wherein 0.1≤x≤2.5, 0<y≤0.5, 0.5≤z≤1.5, and 0≤d≤0.5, and M is at least one element selected from a group comprising Al, Cr, Mo, Ti, W, and Zr. The manufacturing method of the negative electrode active material for the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes a stage of mixing a vanadium source material, a lithium source material, and a metal source material into a solid form, and a stage of heat-treating the mixture mixed into the solid form at a temperature of 500-1400°C in a reducing atmosphere. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
