PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain compatibility among pieces of equipment corresponding to a recording medium compliant with a predetermined standard, and to distinguish data recorded by the equipment from, e.g., general data on a PC. SOLUTION: When image data is recorded by the compatible equipment corresponding to the recording medium compliant with the predetermined standard, a predetermined identifier is added to the header of image data, and the corresponding equipment reproduces only the image data having the identifier added thereto. When image data is supplied from a PC 3 to a disk drive 50 and recorded on a recording medium 20, the predetermined identifier is added to the header, and predetermined processing is carried out at an image processing part 37. When the predetermined identifier is not added to the header, the image data is directly recorded on the recording medium 20. When the predetermined identifier is added to the header of the image data but the image is processed at another image processing part different from the image processing part 37, the predetermined identifier of the header is removed, and the image data is recorded on the recording medium 20.
