PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new aromatic amide-dihydroxy compound having high crystallinity, high melting point and high reactivity and useful as a monomer of a hard segment of a block copolymer type thermoplastic elastomer, a monomer of a polyamide resin, a polyester resin, a polyurethane resin, a polycarbonate resin, a polyether resin, a phenol resin, a liquid crystal polymer, etc., and even as an additive of a polymer and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The aromatic amide-dihydroxy compound has a specific structure. The method for producing the aromatic amide-dihydroxy compound comprises reacting a specific aromatic amide compound with a cyclic carbonate compound, as necessary, in the presence of a catalyst.
