Release lever (4) is engaged by movable, seismic mass (3) and play is available between lever and sensor housing (1). Thus at least one side of lever is displaceable by acceleration of sensor housing in direction of corresponding side of housing. At least one of corresponding sides (8, 9) of release lever and sensor housing is fitted with sound attenuation for reduction of contact noises. Preferably surface coating (10) on sides forms noise attenuation. An independent claim is included for method for manufacturing the sensor.
