PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact press-fitting device having sufficient press-fit strength, and a method for press-fitting the contact. SOLUTION: This contact press-fitting device to press-fit a contact member 80 in a board is composed of a contact gripping mechanism 1 comprising front and rear gripping members 20, 30 to hold a press-fit part 83 between its front and back, a pressure roller 15 to move the head 32 of the rear gripping member 30 backward and frontward, and a vertical cylinder 12 to rotate the front gripping member 20, and a mechanism to vertically move the contact gripping mechanism 1. When the press-fit part 83 is gripped between the front and rear gripping heads 23, 32, a contact part 82 is accepted in a laterally opened acceptance space 24, after the press-fit part 83 is forced in the press-fit hole 91 of the board 90, the acceptance space 24 is positioned on the lateral outside of the contact part 82 by rotating the front gripping member 20, and the contact gripping mechanism 1 is moved upward without making the front gripping head 23 interfere with the contact part 82.
