A mobile terminal device capable of transmitting and receiving data. More specifically, a mobile terminal device capable of performing operation effectively upon switching the set operations of the mobile terminal device such as opening/closing of the collapsible mechanism. A control method of the device is also disclosed. The mobile terminal device includes a processing section for executing data transmission and reception, a clock signal generation section for generating a clock signal to be supplied to the processing section, a power supply section for supplying power to the processing section, a setting section for setting an operation halt of the processing section, and a control section for stopping supply of the clock signal or power supply to the processing section if the aforementioned operation halt is set in the setting section and making the clock signal generation section supply the clock signal or supply power to the processing section if a data transmission/reception request is generated.
