摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simultaneously realize lowering of air pollution due to exhaust emission and improvement in output and fuel consumption in a turbo compound engine. <P>SOLUTION: An exhaust passage 6 between a high pressure turbine 14 and a low pressure turbine 3 and an intake passage 8 on the upstream side of a compressor 11 are communicated with each other through an EGR passage 18. By this arrangement, some of exhaust emission passed through the high pressure turbine 14 is passed through the EGR passage 18 and returned to the intake passage 8 on the upstream side of the compressor 11, so that the exhaust emission recirculation can be efficiently performed by a pressure difference between the intake air not yet compressed by the compressor 11 and the exhaust emission to which back pressure is applied by the low pressure turbine 3. All of the exhaust emission of the engine is passed through the high pressure turbine 14, so that the exhaust energy can be efficiently transmitted to the high pressure turbine 14 to improve the output of the high pressure turbine 14. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
