PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the security of data communication in a network, based on the Home PNA standards. SOLUTION: On the occurrence of an incoming call of a network telephone from a telephone line 11, a Home PNA gateway apparatus 13 transmits Home PNA data packets for notifying the occurrence of the incoming call to Home PNA telephone sets 14, 15, and either of the Home PNA telephone sets 14, 15 receiving the packet carries out call termination processing. After establishing a telephone call, the Home PNA gateway apparatus 13 encrypts voice data packets from the telephone line 11 so that the decryption can be made by only the apparatus whose telephone call is established in the Home PNA telephone sets 14, 15, converts the voice data packets into Home PNA data packets and transmits the packets on a Home PNA communication line 12.
